England’s first escalator was installed in Harrods in 1898. It was 40’ high and powered by a continuous leather belt comprising 224 linked ‘steps’ and caused quite a stir among its first users.

Escalators have come a long way since then but the problem of keeping them clean remains a challenge. With the Duplex 350 and 550 you can refresh your escalators and restore them to peak standards of cleanliness. How many times have you used an escalator and noticed how dirty the treads are? Regular cleaning not only helps maintain the working efficiency of escalators and travelators, it also creates a good impression by removing the build-up of unsightly stains and dirt.

Professional escalator cleaning is a two-stage process. Firstly, a sweeping function is employed by vacuum to remove dust. This is followed by a “damp wash” as the machines spray a fine mist of water and detergent onto the escalator before scrubbing deep into the treads using special brushes, which have been designed in consultation with leading escalator manufacturers. The minimal water use is a key requirement in the maintenance of escalators and is also environmentally-friendly.  An optional riser-cleaning kit is available. Travelator cleaning is much the same, but without the added challenges of a vertical incline.
